Joseph E. Cruz, 81, of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2014, in Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo, ND.
Joseph Eugene "Joe" Cruz, son of Canuto and Andrea (Padilla) Cruz, was born on November 8, 1932, in Moorhead where he grew up and worked on his parents' farm.
On September 24, 1958, Joseph was united in marriage to Janice Hunemuller at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Joe and Janice made their home in Sunnyvale, CA, and later, Fargo. Joe was an experienced carpet installer until his retirement.
Joe loved to fish and passed that on to his children and grandchildren. He always loved a good joke and his laugh could be heard from a mile away. Joe also had many infamous sayings, including, "I gotta see a man about a horse", "I need more ‘medicine'," and everyone's favorite, "You got that right!"
Joe is survived by one son, Timothy (Rose) Cruz, Morgan Hill, CA; four daughters, Stephanie Hendrickson, Roberta Cruz, Dawn (Paul) Schares, and Carlotta (Rick) Bruns, all of Fargo; nine grandchildren, Craig Hendrickson, Takara Geck, Neil Hendrickson, Kayleigh Olson, Miryssa Hendrickson, Justin Schares, Emily Schares, Sabrina Rice, Camri Bruns; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary (Reuben) Finger; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice; his parents; brothers, Andrew, George, Henry, Knute and Paschal Cruz; and sisters, Petra Ochoa, Phyllis and Abigail Cruz.
