Joseph F. Costello, 87, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, died September 7, 2007, at Monticello Big-Lake Hospital, Monticello, MN.
Joseph was born on April 20, 1920, in Dilworth, Minnesota, where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Dilworth High School in 1939. On April 22, 1941, he married Lois Seaburg, his wife of 59 years, who preceded him in death.
Joseph served in the armed forces during World War II. He was stationed in Alaska and Seattle as a military policeman. After the war, Joseph returned to Dilworth, where he worked for the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads, retiring in 1984 after 45 years as a switchman.
He and Lois loved spending time with family and friends at their cabin on Pelican Lake, as well as spending winters in Texas after their retirement.
Joseph is survived by a son, Joseph (Laura Dollarhide) Costello of Eldorado Springs, CO; daughters, Mary Jo (John) Marks of Jordan, MN, Judy (Don) Bigham of Seattle, WA, and Lori (Rome) Hutchings of Clearwater, MN; his brother, Louis Costello; and his sister, Sybil Verdi, both of Dilworth. Joseph has five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and scores of nephews, nieces, and close friends.
Since 2002, he enjoyed living at St. Benedict's Senior Community, 1301 7th Street East, Monticello, MN 55362.
Gathering of Friends: Monday, September 10, 2007, from 6 PM - 8PM with a Prayer service at 6:30 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Memorial Mass: Tuesday, September 11, 2007, at 11:00 AM, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth.
Inurnment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
