Joyce A. Benson

Joyce A. Benson, age 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018, in Lilac Homes in Moorhead, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Joyce Ann Adahl, was born April 21, 1928, in Penn, ND, the ninth child of Joseph and Clara (Nees) Adahl. She grew up in Penn and attended Penn Public Schools. Joyce lived on the family farm until adulthood, where she learned the value of hard work.
On October 15, 1955, Joyce was united in marriage to the love of her life, William "Bill" Benson, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Penn. After living in Devils Lake and Lakota, ND, they made their home in Moorhead.
After her beloved Bill died in 1987, she continued to live in their home. Joyce was an excellent cook and was well known for her fantastic homemade buns. She spent many hours volunteering at the Moorhead Thrift Store and Eventide on Eighth, where she visited every day. A life-long Lutheran, Joyce was a charter member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Fargo, ND.
Due to declining health, Joyce moved in 2015 to Serenity Assisted Living in Dilworth, MN, and finally to Lilac Homes Memory Care, Moorhead, where she died on Friday, August 10, 2018, at the age of 90.
Joyce is survived by a number of extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and eight siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Visitation for Joyce will be Thursday, August 16, 2018, from 10 AM until 11 AM, followed by her funeral service at 11 AM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Burial will be at a later date in the Devils Lake (ND) City Cemetery.
