Joyce C. Merrick

Joyce Carol Merrick, 100 years 9 months, died Thursday, July 26, 2018, in Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo, ND.

Joyce was born on October 18, 1917, in Minneapolis, MN, to Edwin and Ruth Nygaard. She graduated from South High School in Minneapolis. On Oct. 10, 1942, she was married to Frank Merrick. She worked for Western Bell and moved to Duluth and Glyndon, MN, Glendive, MT, and finally Moorhead, MN, following Frank's employment with the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern Railroad.

Joyce attended The Lutheran Church of Christ the King and enjoyed her circle Bible Studies. Her Joy in life was loving and caring for others. This was accomplished over fifty plus years of volunteering as a Red Cross "Grey" Lady at hospitals and nursing homes, a RSVP Southern Valley volunteer, and working at the Moorhead Thrift Shop. Her work was recognized by two sitting United States presidents!

She loved people and they loved her!

Joyce is survived by a sister, Beverly Schultz, Minnetonka, MN; brother, Edwin (Jerri)Nygaard, Blaine, MN; son, Dale Merrick, Castle Rock, CO; grandchildren, Donnett (Woody) Adams, Dragoon, AZ, Mark (Connie) Miller, Waldport, OR; Ross (Michele) Miller, Sierra Vista, AZ, and Scott (Karan) Miller, Peyton, CO; 11 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-great-grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, wonderful neighbors and friends.

Although Joyce is in her heavenly home with the Lord Jesus, she will truly be missed here on earth.

Memorials preferred to Elim Rehab and Care Center.

Visitation for Joyce will be Tuesday from 5 PM to 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at 2 PM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.

Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead
