Joyce Kathleen (Gravalin) Houglum, 82, died peacefully Friday, May 18, 2012, at her son's home in Moorhead, MN.
Joyce was born September. 18, 1929, the daughter of Alfred A. and Sophie C. (Martinson) Gravalin, in Moorhead, where she and her older brother, Harold, grew up.
She was a graduate of Moorhead High School and Fargo Business College, and after completing her education, she was employed as a bookkeeper by J.L. Goeson, Public Accountant.
On December 30, 1950, she married Hjalmer C. "Chub" Houglum in Perley, MN, where they lived briefly before moving to Moorhead. They were married for fifty-two years. Chub died in 2003. After the birth of their children, Joyce became a homemaker. Her family meant everything to her. Her life was spent caring for and loving those close to her. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her special joy. The love she gave was returned in full measure.
She is survived by her son Steven Houglum, Moorhead, and daughter Sharon (Glen) Pedersen, Harwood, ND; grandchildren Kathryn (Christopher) Olson, Thief River Falls, MN, William Pedersen, Fargo, and Thomas Pedersen, Harwood; great-grandchildren, Adrianna Faith Olson, and Addison Grace Olson, Thief River Falls, MN; sisters-in-law, Emma Gravalin, Detroit Lakes, MN, and Dorothy Houglum, Perley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Chub; her parents; her brother, Harold; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Arnold and Verena Houglum, Bob and Gertrude Aubrey, Mervin and Corrine Johnson, Ernest and Elaine Houglum, and Bennett Houglum; nieces, Margaret Smith, and Shirley Houglum; and nephew Darrell Houglum.
The funeral service will be at 2 PM on Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Bethania Cemetery, Perley.
