Julian A. Thompson, 94, Moorhead, MN, died Friday, June 23, 2017, in Eventide on Eighth, in Moorhead.
Julian Arthur Thompson, the son of S.T. and Julia (Stordahl) Thompson, was born in Big Sandy, MT, on May 10, 1923. His family moved to Staples, MN, where Julian graduated from high school. During WWII, he served his country in the US Army Air Force. He served in North Africa, Sicily, and France, and was discharged July 24, 1945.
Julian made his home in Moorhead, where he married Mildred Lawrence on September 12, 1947. Julian worked as a bookkeeper at the West Fargo (ND) stock yards and for Boothe Fisheries in Fargo, ND.
Julian was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, where he served faithfully, including being part of the quilters group. He made many, many quilts and was the only male member of the North Dakota Quilters League. He also sewed costumes for the FM Community Theatre company. For many years, Julian and Mildred were a part of the "Silver Follies" choir.
Late in life, Julian and Mildred move to Eventide to live. Many people considered Julian to be the unofficial "Mayor of Eventide." Mildred died on March 11, 2014.
Julian is survived by daughters, Rebecca (James) Hughes, Woodstock, GA, and Deborah (Mike) Sigdestad, Moorhead; sons, Peter Thompson, Bismarck, ND, and Robert (Ushi) Thompson in Germany; a daughter-in-law, Karen Thompson, Denver, CO; grandchildren, Christopher Hughes, Sharon (Eric) Johnston, Amber (Mike) Sewczak, Jason (Rebecca) Thompson, Jon (Sheri) Thompson, Kristen Thompson and Sandra (Swen) Thompson; and by 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents; two sons, David and Paul; a sister, Arlene; and a brother, Joseph.
A memorial service for Julian will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 10:30 AM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
