Julie Gunkel, 75, Moorhead, MN, died March 24, 2011, in Sanford Palliative Care, Fargo, ND, after a two-year struggle with cancer.

Julie M. Suedel was born May 2, 1935, in Sabin, MN, the daughter of John and Minnie Suedel. She attended school in Sabin and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1953. Julie married Harland Gunkel August 20, 1993, in Moorhead. He passed away in 1995.

Julie was an active member of the Women's Auxiliary of the Moorhead VFW and was a facilitator for several years for "Beginning Experiences." Julie was also a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

In early years, Julie worked for the FM Hotel in Moorhead and did contract cleaning at Bell Telephone Co. in Fargo.

Julie was a fun-loving and generous lady. Each time anyone would come to visit, she would not send them out the door empty-handed. Her chocolate chip cookies and popcorn balls were her specialty. Julie loved to spend time out on her deck among her flowers. Each spring she filled a planter with beautiful floral arrangements, each in memory of those she had lost. Needless to say, her deck was full. She used to say; I just sit out there in the sun and let God love me.
Julie touched the hearts of many people and will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.

Julie had a special place in her heart for her cats-who to her were her children-Emily and Tigger. They were her pride and joy. She would even speak for them, quoting clever phrases that only she could hear.

Visitation: Monday, 4 PM to 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at 11 AM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
