Karen Ann Bast, the daughter of John C. and Gloria J. (Thorson) Bast, was born in Springfield, Illinois, on August 24, 1949. As a young lady, she lived in Wisconsin, with her family.
On October 2, 1977, Karen was united in marriage to Steven Swaser, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The family lived in Port Orchiard, Washington. In 1988, they moved to St. Cloud, MN,
and in 1992, to Moorhead, MN, where they had lived since.
Karen had faithfully served as the volunteer coordinator at Elim Rehab and Care Center, Fargo, ND, and as a paraprofessional in the Fargo Public School System. She retired in February of 2017.
Karen was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed watching old movies, and traveling. She was an avid collector. Karen was a kind and caring mother and grandmother to her family.
Karen died at her home in Moorhead, on March 22, 2017, at the age of 67. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, who died in 2011; and by her parents.
Karen is survived by her children, Tammy (David) Schill, Jeff (Maeqa) Swaser, Brian (Chelsa) Swaser, and Lori Swaser; grandchildren, Andrew and Katelyn Schill, and Zach, Isaac, and Logan Swaser; and sisters, Carla (Dan) Blank, Jan Bast, and Kay (Joe) Harding.
Her memorial service will be Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 2 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
