Karl Mattson, age 85, died at his home in Moorhead, MN, on Saturday, March 17, 2012, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Karl Daniel Mattson, son of Louis and Gertrude (Green) Mattson, was born in rural Alexandria, MN, on August 13, 1926. He grew up and received his education in the Alexandria area. He graduated from high school in 1944.
On June 6, 1944, Karl entered the US Navy. He served on a number of ships in the Pacific Theatre of War during World War II. After his discharge in 1946, Karl worked as an ironworker on many large construction projects in a number of states.
On January 2, 1988, Karl married Arlos Spieker. They made their home in Grand Forks, ND, and after a year moved to Dilworth, MN. They later lived in Fargo, ND, until finally making their home in Moorhead.
Karl was a loving husband, stepfather, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he loved to travel, especially with his brother, Clifford.
Karl is survived by his wife, Arlos, Moorhead; stepsons, Douglas (Cher) Spieker, West Fargo, ND, Derald (Georgia) Spieker, Moorhead, and Donnie Spieker, Moorhead; stepdaughters, Debra (Kim) Kinslow, Mahnomen, MN, Denise (Richard) Eskildsen, Moorhead,
Visitation: Wednesday, 5 PM to 7 PM, with prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Funeral: Thursday, March 22, 2012, at 2 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
