Katherine E. Swanson

August 25, 1926 — December 8, 2005

Katherine "Katie" E. Swanson was born August 25, 1926, in Fargo, ND, to Lorentz and Ellen (Wold) Hegland. She lived in Fargo and attended Fargo schools, until age 16, when they moved to Omaha, NE, where she graduated from Omaha Technical High School. Katie worked as a comtometer operator at the Fairmont Creamery main office for a year and at Brandeis Department Store until she moved from Omaha. During World War II, she worked in Detroit, MI for the IRS and worked for that agency when she returned to Fargo.


On June 26, 1948, Katherine was married to Earl G. Swanson in Moorhead, MN. They have lived in the Fargo-Moorhead area since that time. Besides raising her family, Katie worked at a hatchery and most recently had been employed by Clay County Social Services. Katie has been a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead, and the Moorhead VFW Auxiliary. Mr. Swanson died December 26, 1991.


Katherine has been a resident at Rosewood on Broadway since January of this year and died there on December 8, 2005, at the age of 79 years.


Her family includes a son, Jerome (Margaret) Swanson of St. Paul, MN, three daughters, Veronica (Bradley) Nelson of Wolverton, MN,
Cynthia Swanson of Moorhead, and Cheryl (Martin) Olson of Moorhead; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Hanson of Twin Falls, ID; a brother, Loren (Marjorie) Hegland of Apple Valley, MN, and several nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; daughter, Linda Swanson; and granddaughter, Donna Swanson.


Visitation: Monday, December 12, 2005, from 5 - 8 pm with a prayer service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Service.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at 2 PM in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
