Katherine was born in Fargo, ND, at St. John's Hospital, on May 25, 1924. She was the daughter of Michael and Julia (Azzenara) DiAllesandro.
Katherine attended Dilworth (MN) High School and graduated in 1942. After graduation, Katherine lived in Chicago, IL, where she worked in a munitions factory during World War II. On October 14, 1948, she married John "Jack" McGinnis, in Dilworth, and they settled in Glyndon, MN.
In 1960, Katherine began working for the U.S. Postal Service in Dilworth, retiring in 1978. Through her years of service at the Post Office, she met and got to know many of the families, both new and old, in Dilworth. Since retirement, she enjoyed traveling, sharing time with her children and grandchildren, and seeing her family and many residents of the Dilworth community as she sat on her front porch.
Katherine McGinnis's friends and family bid her a loving farewell to a loving mother, loyal friend, and a longtime resident of Dilworth. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She was a lifetime member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Dilworth. Katherine died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at her home in Dilworth, at eighty-four years of age.
Katherine is survived by her children, Delia (Susan Quigley) McGinnis, Seattle, WA, Maureen (Paul) Wycisk, New York, NY, Patrick McGinnis, Houston, TX, Michael (Anita) McGinnis, Winthrop ME, and Laurie (Thomas) Livdahl, Moorhead, MN; seven grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Jack" McGinnis; brothers, Michael, and Angelo and a sister, Rosie.
Visitation for Katherine will be Thursday, March 19, 2009, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The funeral mass will be Friday, March 20, 2009, at 11 AM, at St. Elizabeth Catholic
