Kathryn “Kathy” Anita Altobelli passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Lilac Homes in Dilworth, MN, on hospice care, surrounded by family, following a brief illness.
Kathryn Anita Wambach was born in Fargo to Jacob “Lottie” and Doreen (Tavis) Wambach. She lived in Fargo, ND, until moving to Moorhead, MN, where she spent much of her early years. She moved to Dilworth to start 5th grade, and this is where she first met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Altobelli. Tony and Kathy spent their high school years together and were united in marriage on July 3, 1961, at St Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Dilworth, and to this union brought forth four children.
After graduation, Kathy moved to the Minneapolis, MN, area to attend stewardess school and work for Bell Telephone. After returning to the area, Kathy worked as a real-estate agent for a short time before becoming an office administrator for Ed Welle Construction. Kathy then went to work for Weivoda Carpets until her retirement.
Tony and Kathy enjoyed traveling to Brownsville, TX, every winter with their good friends, Gary and Karen Landsem. Kathy and Tony were awesome dancers and loved to go out dancing during the disco era. She was also a biker babe, traveling all over the country on the back of Tony’s motorcycle. Tony and Kathy have called Detroit Lakes MN, home for the last 15 years after remodeling the family lake cabin. They have enjoyed large family gatherings at the lake for the holidays and summer months. Kathy was an excellent cook and was famous for her Italian spaghetti and Texas cake. She was an avid gardener with beautiful flower beds and large vegetable gardens every year. Kathy was very active in her church at St Elizabeth’s in Dilworth and later Holy Rosary in Detroit Lakes.
Kathy is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 61 years, Tony, Detroit Lakes; children, Gina (Kim) Walkup, Shevlin, MN, Anthony (Dawn) Altobelli Jr., Fargo, Angela (Steve) Jesme, Dilworth, and Joseph (Kaaryn) Altobelli, Dilworth; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Kristan (Aaron), Zach (Jennifer), Grant, Bronson (Marinda), Oliver, Kaden, Camden and Caysen; great-grandchildren, Hailey, Brooklyn, Barrett, Bridger, and Daxton; sister, Patricia Fournier; and brothers, Joe Wambach and Jim (Eyen) Wambach; and many close cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lottie and Doreen Wambach; mother and father in-law, Joe and Mary Altobell; and brother-in-law, Tom Fournier.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, Thursday, August 4, 2022, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, August 5, 2022, at 11:30 AM, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Detroit Lakes, MN. Interment will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead, at 3:30 PM.
