Kathryn Mary Kennedy, 76, of Moorhead, MN, died October 25, 2012, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND, with family and friends by her side.
Kathryn was born February 28, 1936, to Edward and Hulda (Brandt) Fitzgerald. She grew up in Sabin, MN, and graduated from Moorhead High School.
Kathryn married Fred Wilson Kennedy, Jr., on November 24, 1956, at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Sabin, MN. Together they raised three children in Moorhead. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to entertain for family and friends and was an excellent cook and hostess. Kathryn's home was always open to visitors and she always made everyone feel welcome and loved and always had a story to tell.
She worked at numerous jobs, her most recent employment was at Busch Agricultural Resources in Moorhead; she retired in January of 1993.
She was a dedicated member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Mary #509, in Moorhead for 44 years. Kathryn was an outstanding leader in Catholic Daughters and was a Minnesota state officer for 15 years and was presently serving as treasurer. She also chaired numerous committees for Court St. Mary. She served as District Deputy from 1990-1992 for the Catholic Daughters of Americas Minnesota State Court. In 2001, she served as co-chairman in the building of a Habitat for Humanity House in Dilworth, Minnesota, that was sponsored by the Catholic Daughters. She also participated in building another Habitat for Humanities home in Mexico in 2008. She served as the State Regent and State Chairman of the Catholic Daughters National Convention, held in Minneapolis, MN, in 2006. She was also involved in Christian Mothers, the Red Hat Society, the Moorhead Soroptimist Club, and Traffic Club.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, Fred, of Moorhead; three children, Fred (Benita) Kennedy III of Moorhead; Sherry Michelson of Moorhead; and John (Carla) Kennedy of Guyton, Georgia; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Lucy) Fitzgerald of Moorhead and Eugene (Glenda) Fitzgerald of Sabin; sisters, Janet (Doug) Marquart of Moorhead; Pat (Lloyd) Wilke of Bismarck, ND and Diane (John) Rogne of Fargo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Hulda; in-laws, Evelyn and Fred Sr.; a sister, Janice; and a son-in-law, Gary.
Visitation: Sunday, 3 to 5 PM with a Prayer Service at 4:30 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Funeral Mass: Monday, October 29, 2012, at 10:30 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Interment: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead
