On January 2, 2022, Kay Vaughn Syvrud was received into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Kay was born on January 21, 1938, to Edward and Eveleth (Anderson) Solum. She was raised in Barnesville and Hawley, MN, and graduated as Valedictorian of Hawley High School, class of 1956.
Kay graduated from Concordia College in 1960 with degrees in English and public school music education.
On April 16, 1960, she married the love of her life, Gerald Syvrud. They moved to Hawley after spending five years in Pullman, WA and raised their family of three boys.
Kay was a wife, a mother, and homemaker. She taught high school English in Garfield, WA, from 1961 to 1963. She also was a public children's librarian at the Moorhead Public Library from 1977-1979 and a public school librarian and music teacher for 24 years in Lake Park Audubon Public Schools from 1980 until 2004 when she retired.
Kay is survived by her husband, Jerry; sons, Dana (May) Syvrud, Ryan (Kristin) Syvrud and Joel Syvrud; grandchildren, Siri, Merete and Annika (Dana's); Adam, Kara and Aaron (Ryan's), Katie and Alec (Joel's); and six great-grandchildren, Liam, Leif, Anna, Emma, Greta and Finn.
A memorial service for family and friends will be planned for this summer.
