Kenneth E. Fiemann, 79, Moorhead, MN, died Friday, October 23, 2009, in Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo, ND, following a long courageous battle with Parkinsons.
Ken was born February 16, 1930 in Crookston, MN, the son of Martin and Melva (Mickelson) Fiemann. He graduated from Moorhead High School in 1948. After high school he worked for Kiefer Chevrolet in Moorhead and went on to join the US Army National Guard.
After returning home from the service, Ken attended Moorhead State College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.
Ken married Betty Deike on October 9, 1954, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead. They made their home in Moorhead and had three children, Ronald, Elizabeth and James.
He played baseball with the American Legion and softball with Shorty's Shoe Shop team for many years. He also coached a baseball team for the American Legion.
In later years he spent most of his time at their summer cabin enjoying the sun, golf, and many good friends. He was active in his church, Trinity Lutheran; a member of the Elks; and Grover Club of Oak Grove Lutheran High School. He spent countless hours helping get the new gym up and running. Betty and Ken spent some of their retirement years in Arizona until his health declined and brought them home.
Ken had a smile that would light up the room. He enjoyed his job as an elementary teacher. Everywhere he went he was greeted warmly by friends, co-workers, and students.
Ken is survived by his wife, Betty, Moorhead; sons, Ronald (Cheryl) Fiemann, Plymouth, MN, and James (Laura) Fiemann, Denver, CO; daughter, Elizabeth (Calvin) Carlson, Oregon City, OR; sisters, Margaret Stene, Moorhead, and Carol Rydell, Bloomington, MN; and four grandchildren, Matthew Carlson, David Carlson, Brooke Fiemann, and Ryan Fiemann. He was preceded in death by his father, Martin; his mother, Melva; a sister, Joan Wilson; and his granddaughter, Jennifer Carlson.

Memorial service: Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, 11 AM, Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
