Kerdell "Kurt" Wittmier

Kerdell "Kurt" Ronald Wittmier, 70, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday May 29, 2007 in his home, Moorhead, MN, surrounded by his family.
Kerdell Ronald Wittmier was born on November 23, 1936 to Martin & Emelia Wittmier in Streeter, ND. Kerdell attended school in Napoleon, ND, and graduated the 8th grade in Kidder County in 1951. Kerdell later received his GED while in the Army.
Kerdell joined the Armed Forces in 1954, and served with the 50th Chemical Platoon. He was honorably discharged from the military in May of 1956.
In 1962, Kerdell married Wilma Welder and in 1968, adopted one son, naming him Kerdell Jr. He was a stepfather to George, Anthony and Darlene. Kerdell met Janet Ladwig in 1981, and they later married in Watertown, SD. Kerdell adopted one son, Brett and had one daughter, Michelle. He was a stepfather to Kevin, Jess, Rebecca and Scott.
Kurt was a hard worker and held a variety of jobs including stock car racer and police officer, though he was best known as Kurt of Wittmier Trucking, his business of 45 years. His passions were his love for his family, his love for the road and his meticulously maintained lawn. When he committed to something he gave everything. He never left a job unfinished and continuously set an example of peace, patience and humility to others. He loved attending church with his family and bringing water to his fellow pew-mates. After retirement, Kurt enjoyed volunteering at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND, where he drove the GEM car and greeted fellow Vets at the door. He will be missed by everyone touched by his wit and charm. He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather to many.
He is survived by his wife Janet, Moorhead; his daughter, Michelle, Moorhead; adopted sons, Brett, Moorhead, and Kerdell Jr., Brownsville, MN; stepdaughter, Rebecca (Les) Stenerson, Glyndon, MN; stepsons, Kevin (Lucy) Ladwig, Frisco, TX, Jess (Lesha) Ladw
He was preceded in death by his mother; Emelia; father, Martin; brothers, Raymond and Elmer; and sisters, Dealta and Rose.
Visitation for Kurt will be Friday, June 1, 2007, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
His funeral will be Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 11 AM, in Valley Christian Church, Moorhead.
Burial, with full military honors, will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
