Kevin Smith

Kevin Jerome Smith, 68, of Moorhead, MN, and Rothsay, MN, passed away due to complications associated with Parkinson’s Disease at River Pointe of Moorhead on December 16, 2023.

Kevin was born December 8, 1955, in Fargo, ND, at St Johns Hospital to Harold and Marcella (Gilbertson) Smith. He moved from Argyle, MN, to Moorhead in the third grade and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1975.

He married Patti Neil in 1975 and settled in Moorhead before welcoming three children - Alli in 1978, Angie in 1981, and Andy in 1989.

Kevin moved to Rothsay in 2008, to be with long time partner Missy Nord and her three children, Kellsey, Kendra, and Lucas. He loved his bonus children and enjoyed his years in the Rothsay community.

He enjoyed working in various careers over the years. He worked for 20 years at Nash Finch, 10 years at Cenex, and his favorite – 9 years at Land O Lakes, delivering milk locally.

In his younger years he enjoyed fishing, bowling, drinking Miller Lite, shooting-the-breeze, talking big, and making jokes. Kevin was a loyal life-long Vikings fan who loved being around people and was always a kid at heart.

Kevin enjoyed his last few years at River Pointe socializing with friends and being with the family at his brothers lake home in Clitherall, MN.

His sense of humor made everyone enjoy being around him. We will miss his one-liners.

Kevin is survived by his three children, Allison (Ben) Svobodny, Angela Baldwin, Andrew (Claire) Smith; longtime partner, Missy Nord and her children, Kellsey (Josh) Steeves, Kendra (Shay) Johnson, and Lucas Nord; grandchildren, Stuart and Ruth Svobodny, Annabelle Baldwin, Henry Steeves, Juniper Smith, and Madden Johnson; brother, Scott Smith; and sister, Kristi (Kevin) Vette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marcella Smith; and sister, Susan Smith. 

A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held at The Lutheran Church of Christ the King in Moorhead on Friday, December 22, 2023, with visitation at 1 PM and service at 2 PM.
