L. Adele Smouse

Adele Smouse died on Sunday. July 8, 2012 in The Gathering Hospice Center at Boutwell's Landing in Oak Park Heights, MN, at the age of 91.
Laura Adele Zink, daughter of Peter and Ruth (Murphy) Zink, was born March 5, 1921, in Melville, ND. She attended school in Melville, and completed her nursing education at St. Alexis Hospital, now University of Mary, in Bismarck, ND. After completing additional training in anesthesia in Duluth, MN, she ventured to Sacramento, CA, where she worked as a nurse anesthetist.
Adele returned to St. Paul, where she met John Smouse. They were married in Carrington, ND, on October 18, 1947. They made their home in St. Paul, where Adele was a nurse anesthetist at St. Mary's and St. Joseph's hospitals. In 1955, the family moved to Moorhead, MN, where Adele spent 35 years working at St. Ansgar Hospital. She retired in 1976. She was a resident of Moorhead for 57 years, until relocating to Oak Park Heights, in November of 2011, to be near family.
Adele enjoyed walking, golfing, traveling and wintering in Florida. She will always be remembered for her humor and quick wit. Her love of family and deep faith sustained her in her daily life. Adele served as a volunteer for Hospice of the Red River Valley, was a member of Catholic daughters of America, the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists; and was an active parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Adele was preceded in death by her husband, John, who died in 1998; and her brother, Eugene Zink. She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Dennis) Breyer, Stillwater, MN; four grandsons, Nathan (Abby) Breyer, Michael Breyer, Jonathan (Mary) Breyer, and Kristopher Breyer; two great-grandchildren, Calvin Breyer, age 3, and Audra Breyer, age 6 months; brothers, Russell Zink, and Maurice (Donna) Zink, Carrington, ND; sisters, Eileen Henderson, Brainerd, MN, and Margaret Davis, Great Falls, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Wednesday, 5 PM to 8 PM, with a prayer service at 8 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Thursday, July 12, 2012, at 4 PM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
