She was born September 17, 1951, to Larry and Jeanne (Steindorf) Courteau in Minneapolis, MN. Laura was the second oldest of eight children.
Laura was united in marriage to Larry Schanus in 1969. They divorced in 1989. Laura has been married to Paul Kunz since 1991.
She was a nature and animal lover, having many dogs, cats, horses and other animals on her 10-acre farm and could often be found searching for birds and other wildlife in the yard.

She was preceded in death by her grandson, Daniel E. Schanus, Jr.; father, Larry Courteau; and sisters Renee Courteau and Ellen Stotts.
Laura is survived by her mother, Jeanne Courteau; husband, Paul; children, Daniel (Monica) Schanus, Christopher (Sarah) Schanus, Amanda (Eric) Christofferson, Stacie Schanus, Sandra (Mike) Barger; and stepson, Jeremiah Kunz; 13 grandchildren, Kayla, William, Benjamin, Garrett, Anna, Katrina, Joseph, Michael, Braden, Zach, Alex, Sophia and Benett; four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Tom Courteau, Terry (Fred) Skreen, Tony (Dawn) Courteau, Chris (Glenn) Zalusky, and Peter (Kim) Courteau; and many other loved ones.
