Laura Johnson

Laura B. Johnson, 54, of Moorhead, MN, died Friday, March 11, 2016, in her CCRI group home.

Laura Beth Johnson was born June 22, 1961, the daughter of Victor and LaVerne (Buckle) Johnson, in Fargo, ND. She was raised in Moorhead and began her education at the Opportunity School in Fargo at the age of six. The following year, she entered the Moorhead Public School Trainable Class until she graduated in 1981.

In the fall of 1981, she moved to the Kessel Group Home (formerly Piper Group Home) in Fergus Falls, MN. While living in Fergus Falls she attended the Productive Alternative Workshop and worked various jobs in the Fergus Falls community. Due to failing health because of Alzheimer's, Laura moved to Moorhead in 2011, where she was cared for by housemates and staff of CCRI.

Laura was a former member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, where she was active for many years. For the last five years she was a member of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead. She loved bowling, Special Olympics, Garth Brooks, The Sound of Music, Annie, Diet Coke, the TV Guide, soap operas, and word finds. Laura especially enjoyed spending time with family, time at the lake, and trips to Laufenberg Farm.

She is survived by her parents, Victor and LaVerne Johnson, Moorhead; sister, Vicki (Marshall) Olson, Monticello, MN; brother, Jerry (Therese) Johnson, Fall City, WA; nieces, Michelle (Nate) Yeager, Jessica (Graham) Ashe, and Megan Johnson; great-nephews and nieces, Noah, Aidan, Makenna and Kalyn Yeager; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her nephew, Brock Olson, her grandparents and other relatives.

A Visitation for Laura will be one hour prior to the funeral service.

Her Funeral Service will be Friday, March 18, 2016, at 11 AM, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.

Burial will take place in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Columbarium, Moorhead.
