LaVerne Richard Chase, known as "Verne" to all his friends, was born November 15, 1922, in Portland, OR, to Roy and Vera (Cooper) Chase. Verne graduated from high school in Beaverton, OR, and then attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR.
Verne entered the US Navy in September of 1941, and was discharged in September of 1961, at the rank of Chief Petty Officer. While in the service, Verne married Grace Klabo on September 1, 1950, at N.A.S Whidbey Island, WA.
After his naval career, Verne worked at the Fargo post office for twenty-two years. After he retired in 1983, Verne and Grace continued to reside in Fargo. During retirement, Verne managed to keep busy. He volunteered many hours for United Blood Services, Lutheran Social Services, and Hope Lutheran Church.
With his family by his side, Verne died peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2007, at ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, at eighty-five years of age.

At Verne's request, memorials may be directed to his favorite charity, the Salvation Army.
Visitation for Verne will be at Hope Lutheran Church (North Campus), Fargo, Friday, November 23, 2007, from 12 noon to 2 PM, followed by the funeral at 2 PM.
