LaVonne A. Langord, 71, Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.
LaVonne Arlene Nylander was born March 29, 1951, in Detroit Lakes, MN, to Lester and Veronica (Dahlberg) Nylander. She graduated from Audubon High School in Audubon, MN with the class of 1969. After high school she moved to Fargo and started working for Holsum Bread. On June 19, 1971, LaVonne was united in marriage to Richard Langord at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Park, MN. The newlywed couple resided in Moorhead where LaVonne started working as a secretary for AAA of North Dakota. After many years of dedication and hard work, LaVonne was named Senior Vice President of AAA of North Dakota Insurance and Travel division, retiring in 2010. While working for AAA of North Dakota she was an active member of the North Dakota Safety Council and held several positions within that organization. After retirement she continued to teach continuing education classes for insurance agents. She also worked part time for Duane Hanson and Jay Burgad at Mutual of Omaha until she retired once again because of her declining health.
LaVonne was the aunt every niece and nephew wish they had. She adored each and every one of her nieces and nephews, always remembering their birthdays, attending every activity she could. LaVonne rarely missed an opportunity to be with them. This also continued with her great-nieces and nephews. Family meant the world to her.
She was a passionate Minnesota sports fan, especially cheering for the Twins, Vikings and Gophers. LaVonne and Rich enjoyed attending many games over the years. LaVonne enjoyed gardening and was known for her green thumb. She was an avid reader making many trips to the Moorhead Library even when her health was declining. Her Persian cats meant the world to her. Family get togethers were important to LaVonne and even when her health started to decline, she made every effort to be present. LaVonne was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead and volunteered many hours at the church.
A devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend, LaVonne’s example of love and friendship will be missed by all her family and those lucky enough to have her part of their life.
LaVonne is survived by her husband Rich of Moorhead, MN; her mother, Veronica Nylander of Audubon, MN; brother, Russell (Laura) Nylander of Moorhead, MN; two sisters, LuAnn Porter of Detroit Lakes, MN, and Lori Thompson of Detroit Lakes, MN; in addition she is survived by brothers- in-law, Keith Mulcahy, Audubon, Kim (Tammy) Langord, Hazen, ND; sisters-in-law, Lynne Ofsthun, Grand Rapids, MN, Jan (Gary) Panasuk, Minot, ND; step-mother-in-law, Ardy Langord, Minot, ND; step-brother-in-law, Bryan (Heidi) Fluhrer, Stanley, ND; step-sisters-in-law, Nyla (Ed) Rankin Taylorsville, UT and Gwyn (Tom) Taylor, Minot; nieces and nephews, Bob (Deanna) Porter, Brian (Sarah) Porter, Mark (Amy) Porter, Sara (Kody) Backman, Katie Nylander, Kyle (Ashley) Nylander, Stacy (Matt) Anderson, Mandey Mulcahy (Jason Hunter), Christina (Justin) Wuollet, Heidi (Jed) Larson, Wendy (Greg) Kray, Colter Langord, Holly (Ty) Victor, Cody (Abbi) Panasuk, Chance (Alicia) Panasuk, Rene (Whitney) Rocha, Dallas Rankin, Derric (Shannon) Taylor, Justin Taylor, Tesha (Jared) Gustafson and Layne (Katie) Fluhrer; and 40 great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Nylander; sister, Lynette Mulcahy; brother-in-law, Bob Porter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cliff (Alice) Langord.
Gathering of friends and family will be Wednesday, June 1, 2022, from 5pm-7pm with a 7pm Time of Sharing in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022, at 2pm in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
