LaVonne Irene Aasen, 83, Grandin, ND, died Friday, July 6, 2012, at Sanford Health, in Fargo, ND.
LaVonne was born June 15, 1929 to Ole and Mathilda (Omodt) Ostern in Spring Grove, MN. She grew up in Spring Grove and graduated from Spring Grove Public School.
LaVonne worked at the Spring Grove Hospital until her marriage to Milton Aasen in January 1950. After a three-month-long honeymoon, they began their farm life together in Hillsboro, ND. After several years, they moved to a farm east of Gardner, ND.
LaVonne and her husband belonged to the National Flying Farmers and enjoyed many trips to conventions. Milton was president for a term and LaVonne was chosen Flying Farmers Queen.
LaVonne was a member of the Nora Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was a 4-H leader, and a member of the Homemakers Club.
LaVonne's love of children led them to the Foster Parents Program. She continued her work as a foster parent even after her husband's death in 1968. She lovingly cared for hundreds of children over thirty years. LaVonne was a loving, generous person who will be missed by many.
LaVonne is survived by her children, Dwight (Gloria) Aasen, Grandin, Natalie (Geoffrey) Gabriel, San Antonio, TX, and Robert (Jamie) Aasen, Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, four sisters; one brother; and nineteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, and three sons, Miles, Roland and Rory.
Visitation for LaVonne will be Wednesday, July 11, 2012, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.
Her funeral will be Thursday, July 12, 2012, at 2 PM, in Nora Lutheran Church, rural Gardner.
Burial will be in the Nora Lutheran Cemetery.
