Lawrence E. Frimanslund

July 9, 1914 — January 24, 2012

Lawrence "Larry" E. Frimanslund, 97, passed on peacefully January 24, 2012 surrounded by family and friends at Sheyenne Crossing Care Center, West Fargo, ND. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Larry was born July 9, 1914 in Moorhead, MN to Louis and Lena (Egge) Frimanslund. He married Ruth Pauline Paulson August 19, 1942 while stationed in Spartanburg, SC. He served as a Sergeant in the US Army during WW II in the Pacific Theatre. Following the war, he worked as Manager of the Meat Departments for Super Valu and Hornbachers for 35 years.

The love of his life, Ruth, died in 1999 and he continued to live in their Moorhead home until he entered Sheyenne Crossings Care Center in 2008.

Larry and Ruth were married for 56 years. They enjoyed traveling to Norway numerous times to visit relatives on both sides of the family. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Norway with a large gathering of relatives. He also traveled many times a year to California to visit his daughter until his early 90's.

A child of the depression, he never lost that strong work ethic and sense of responsibility for family and country. He enjoyed gardening and was meticulous about his yard. He was most content smoking his pipe and viewing his flower and vegetable garden in his outdoor patio. Every family vacation was spent at Pelican Lake where wonderful memories were created - fishing, swimming, water skiing, boating, and nonsense.

Known as the biggest flirt of Sheyenne Crossing, he had a great sense of humor with the staffers, otherwise known as his "girls", and planned a road trip with them to San Francisco as soon as they could establish the seating order on the bus. His lap was most coveted and he kept them guessing about who would win that prize. He brought many smiles to their faces and he was never without his daily hugs from them.

A deeply religious man, he was a Charter Member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Moorhead. He was also an active member of the Mid-Day Lions Club in Moorhead and was always compassionate, charitable and generous with those less fortunate..

Larry was preceded in death by his eldest son, Larry (Connie) and survived by his daughter JoAnn Mahaney, Danville, CA, son Robert, Moorhead, daughter-in-law Connie, Grand Rapids. MN, three grandchildren, Jeff, St Paul, MN, Jon (Jennifer), Grand Rapids, MN, and Chad (Myriah) Frimanslund; Richfield, MN, two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Alex Frimanslund; Grand Rapids, MN and sister Virginia Olson, Minneapolis, MN.

The funeral will be Thursday, January 26 at 3:30 PM, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.

Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Burial, with full military honors, will be Friday, January 27 at 10:30 AM, in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.

There will be a gathering and reception Friday, January 27 at 2 PM, in Sheyenne Crossings Care Center, West Fargo.

The family was greatly appreciative of the excellent care by Hospice in his final days, and request that memorials be directed to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
