Lawrence Schaffer

Lawrence Elroy Schaffer was born July 15, 1935, in Tappen, ND, to William and Olga (Rohrbach) Schaffer. The family moved to Fargo, ND, in 1940, where Lawrence was raised and received his education.

Lawrence married Lorraine Asleson on October 2, 1953, in Fargo. He worked for Northern Improvement, Fargo, for over forty years and he loved his job. Lorraine died March 15, 1997. Lawrence then married Mary Jane Zent on April 17, 1998, and they made their home in Fargo.

Lawrence loved classic cars, reading and watching television.

Lawrence died Monday, July 6, 2015, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley, at seventy-nine years of age.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, Fargo; five sons, Glenn (Lisa), Larry (Tammi), Mike (Pat Riveland), and Dan (Annette), all of Fargo, and Darren, St. Cloud, MN; stepchildren, Derek (Amy) Schuck, Bloomington, MN, and Theresa (Jay Webber) Schafer, Fargo; fourteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, John Gettel, West Fargo, ND; and a sister, Bette Jane (Clayton "Bud") Anderson, Moorhead, MN.

In addition to his first wife, Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Susan; grandson, Kyle; and a sister, Emma.

Visitation for Lawrence will be Thursday, July 9, 2015, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

His funeral will be Friday, July 10, 2015, at 11 AM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.

Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
