Le Roy Johnston

July 21, 1947 — September 21, 2004

Le Roy Darrell Johnston was born July 21, 1947, to Elmer and Lillie (Zemina) Johnston in Mitchell, SD, where he was raised and received his education. After high school, he attended Dakota Wesleyan College, Mitchell, for two years and then transferred to North Dakota State University, Fargo, where he graduated with a degree in architecture. Le Roy worked for many years as a registered architect for M.O. Foss Sr. in Moorhead, MN.

On June 16, 1978, Le Roy married Mary Morgan in Moorhead. They made their home in Billings, MT, where Le Roy worked as an architect for twelve years. They moved to Honolulu, Hawaii, for two years where Le Roy designed and renovated hotels for Hilton. He also directed projects that took place overseas. For a short period of time they lived in Rome, Georgia before returning to the Fargo-Moorhead area. Le Roy then retired due to illness.

Le Roy died Tuesday, September 21, 2004, in ManorCare Health Services, Fargo, at the age of fifty-seven, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Le Roy was past president of the State Architecture Association in Montana and he and Mary were presenters of Engaged Encounters, which prepared young couples for marriage. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Christ Renews His Parish, and the cancer support group at Church of the Nativity. He was actively involved in the Tahitian Noni Company and was a strong supporter of Make-A-Wish.

Le Roy loved life and viewed every event as an opportunity to have fun. He was very involved in his two daughters' lives and thoroughly enjoyed participating in their activities. He loved to laugh and enjoyed cooking gourmet meals. He was a true gentleman and was appreciative of everything and everyone around him. His greatest attribute was his faith and positive attitude. He was deeply loved and will be missed by many.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Mary; daughters, Anne Marie and Elizabeth, all of Fargo; his mother, Lillie, Fargo; a sister, Marlene (Jerry) Lundborg, Pierre, SD; a brother, Eugene, St. Paul, MN; a sister-in-law, Betty Jo (Wes) Sorenson
