Lena Heitzmann, the daughter of Fred and Bertha (Hertzberg) Heitzmann, was born in McClusky, ND, on March 31, 1918. She grew up and received her education in the McClusky area, where she graduated from high school.
Lena received her teacher's training at Minot (ND) State University and then taught school in rural McClusky. In 1945, Lena married David Paris and they made their home in Mohall, ND.
Lena and her daughter, Brenda, moved to Fargo, ND, in 1950. Lena worked as a secretary for Foss Associates, a local architect and design firm, until she retired at the age of 62.
In 1992, Lena became a translator for the NDSU program, "Germans from Russia". She was still employed at the time of her death and was NDSU's eldest staff member.
Lena died in her home in Fargo, on Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at the age of 86. Lena will be remembered for canning fruits and vegetables, playing hymns on her organ, visiting with friends and relatives, and being very appreciative of the kindness shown to her. She was active in her church, Community Baptist Church, where she was a charter member.
Lena is survived by a daughter, Brenda (Patrick) Lobitz, Fargo; a sister, Ella (Sam) Kirschmann, McClusky; and a brother, Ted (Marion) Heitzmann, Harvey, ND.
