Leo J. "Joe" Baker, 75, Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, June 2, 2011, in Triumph Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Leo Joseph "Joe" Baker was born April 29, 1936, in Moorhead to Leo F. and Margaret (Kilcoin) Baker. A lifelong resident of Moorhead, Joe attended St. Joseph's Catholic School and Moorhead High School, graduating in 1954.

Joe enlisted in the US Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1961. He was presented the "Award of Merit" for duty beyond call.

On December 29, 1962, Joe married Marjorie Holman in Moorhead. Joe worked as a parts manager for J.I. Case Company until his retirement.

After 48 years of marriage, their love produced 3 children, Jackie Swanson and her children, Brandon, Carissa, Eric and Molly; Michael (Phyllis) Baker; and Anne (Jeremy) Korth and their children, Matthew and Kali. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Quinn and Leo; a brother, Ron (Jerri) Baker; a sister, Cookie (Bob) Thompson; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael; a sister, Bev Grandbois; and a niece, Denise Holland.

Joe was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead, serving in the Befriender Ministry. He also served on the Energy Task Force, Citizens Advisory and Sports Commission Committees, Clay County Safety Council, Historical Society, Eagles Cl
As a veteran he took pride in being a member of the Moorhead American Legion Post 21, where he was awarded a life membership in 1996 and was a color guard member. Joe was also an active "scouter", serving as a Boy Scout chair and received many scouting a
Joe's greatest passion was baseball. He pushed to improve Matson Field and helped to bring the first 16 team Minnesota American Legion State Baseball Tournament to Moorhead in 1996. Joe served as the 9th District Baseball Chairman and was named to the M
The Visitation will be on Monday from 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The Funeral will be on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at 11 AM, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
