Leo W. Behrens, 79, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, in his home.
Leo was born May 24, 1925, in Paullina, IA. He grew up, attended school and farmed in the Paullina and Calumet, IA, area.
On November 15, 1945, Leo joined the Air Force, serving in WWII for two years. On August 27, 1948, he married Norma Martin. He went to work for the National Weather Service in Omaha, NE.
In 1966, they moved to Point Barrow, AK, and from there they moved to Rapid City, SD, where they were during the 1972 flood. They then moved back to Bennington, NE, and eventually settled in Barnesville, MN. Norma passed away on March 2, 1990. On September 1, 1990, Leo married Carol Crossley of north Moorhead, where they lived until his death.
Leo is survived by his wife, Carol, Moorhead; his children, Diane (Fred) Behrens, Omaha, David (Fran) Behrens, Moorhead, and Sharon (Tom) Poach, Moorhead; a daughter-in-law, Donna Behrens, Fargo, ND; stepchildren, Mark (Darlene) Crossley, Fredricksburg, VA, Chuck (Kate) Crossley, Moorhead, and Lisa (Pat) Rerick, Mapleton, ND; grandchildren, Terry Behrens, Sean Kooren, and Trevor Poach; stepgrandchildren, David Goodwin, Jennifer, Amber, Jacob, Adam, Matthew, and Jessy; and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Alexis.
In addition to his first wife Norma, he was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Emma Behrens; a son, Keith; and a sister, Leona Peterson.
Visitation: Tuesday from 6 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead
Funeral Service: Wednesday (4/6/05) at 11 AM at Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead
Interment: Barnesville City Cemetery, Barnesville
