Leona Barnard passed on to God Wednesday, November 21, 2012, due to complications associated with COPD.
Leona was born on November 6, 1930 to Michael and Alvina (Kubitza) Koval on the family farm outside Hillsboro, ND. One of fourteen children, her sister Yvonne, our dear Aunt Vonnie, is the only remaining family member.
Leona moved to Fargo, ND, and started a career in food service that lasted until her retirement. She worked at Sorenson's Café, The Rex Café, Tree Top, Northwood Chalet, and The Speak Easy. She loved being around people and generously gave her friendship, her time, and her warm smile.
She married Donald Barnard on April 10, 1950, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Fargo. In 1962, the family moved to Moorhead, MN, and for the past fifty years has been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish, where her children attended school.
Leona is survived by her sister; six children; eleven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren whom she loved and cherished her time with.
Thank you to the staff at Parkview Terrace and Compassion Care for your kindness and dedication, and to Msgr. Mike, Fr. Todd, Deacon Tom and the St. Joseph parish family for your prayers and support.
Mom, we love you dearly, be in peace with God: Don, Tim, Eileen, Dave, Diane, and Connie.
The funeral mass will be Wednesday, November 28, 2012, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Visitation will be at the church after 10 AM on Wednesday.
