Leona Frances Kukowski was born November 6, 1918, in Beach, ND, to A. P. and Martha (Slominski) Kukowski. The family moved to the Georgetown, MN, area in 1921, and Leona graduated from high school in Moorhead, MN.
Leona married John Jereszek in 1938, in Georgetown. After three years, they moved to a farm near Felton, MN, which remains in the family to this day.
John died December 13, 1976, and Leona remained on the farm until moving into Moorhead.
Leona died Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at Golden Living Center, Moorhead, at ninety-two years of age.
Leona was an active volunteer in the community. She volunteered at St. Ansgar Hospital for seventeen years and Red Cross for over ten years. She was also an active member of Catholic Daughters.
Leona is survived by her four daughters, Mary Ann Simmons, Crookston, MN, Marjorie (Raymond) Olek, Brainerd, MN, Rose (Vernard "Swede") Olek, Moorhead, and Cheryl (Dennis) Matson, Edgemont, SD; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and
In addition to her husband, John, Leona was preceded in death by three brothers, Dominic, Frank, and William Kukowski; two sisters, Emily Volesky, and Della Bump; and a son-in-law, Donald Simmons.
Visitation for Leona will be Friday, April 8, 2011, from 4 - 6 PM, with a prayer service at 6 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Her funeral mass will be Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 7 PM, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial will be in Holy Cross (North) Catholic Cemetery, Fargo.
