Leonard M. Lammers, 86, Fargo, ND, died Sunday, March 2, 2008, in Bethany Homes, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Leonard Martin Lammers was born October 25, 1921, in Page, ND, to John and Anna (Hoppe) Lammers. The family moved to rural Sabin, MN, when Leonard was a young child. He attended school in Sabin and helped on the family farm.
On July 2, 1944, Leonard married Ruby Suedel in Sabin. Shortly thereafter, Leonard was drafted into the Army. He served as a Military Policeman in Puerto Rico until his discharge in 1946. He then returned to the Sabin area where he worked on the family farm and in construction.
In 1955, Leonard began working as a bulk delivery driver for Fankhanel Oil. He worked there for thirty-five years before retiring. In 1991, Leonard and Ruby moved to Moorhead, MN. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and playing cards. They also enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Clitherall Lake.
On May 16, 1999, Ruby died and Leonard continued to make his home in Moorhead. He became a resident of Bethany Homes in 2006.
Leonard is survived by two daughters, Pam (Brian) Larson, Fargo, and Gail (Roger) Johnson, Battle Lake, MN; a son, John (Sharon) Lammers, Dilworth, MN; seven grandchildren, Melissa (Eric) Babolian, Matt (Amy) Lammers, Angie (Ryan) Babolian, Lindsey Lammers (fiancé, Aaron Robinson), Amy Larson, Adam Larson (fiancé Cassie Lee) and Alli Larson; seven great-grandchildren, Owen and Griffin Babolian, Easton and Reese Lammers, and Blake, Avery, and Payton Babolian; a sister, Lorraine Edwards, Wolverton, MN; a brother, Donald (Barbara) Lammers, Fargo; three sisters-in-law, Julie Gunkel, Moorhead, and Bessie Suedel and Grace Lammers, both of Sabin; and one brother-in-law, Earl Roesler, Leonard, ND.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lorentine, and a brother Clarence.
Visitation: Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral Service: Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 11 AM, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Sabin.
Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Sabin.
