LeRoy B. Dosland, age 81, of Perley, MN, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family.
LeRoy Bernard was born September 28, 1926, at St. John's Hospital, Fargo, to Thormon "T.C." and Borghild (Paulson) Dosland. He grew up on the family farm in Lee Township, rural Perley. LeRoy was baptized and confirmed at Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Perley. He attended Roosevelt country school and graduated from Borup High School in 1944.
LeRoy married Dorothy Alice Nichols on his 22nd birthday at Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN. Together they raised six children on the family farm. He was an active lifetime member of the Bethania Lutheran Church, serving in many positions. Since 1991 he was an associate member of Nora Lutheran Church, rural Gardner, ND.
LeRoy was involved with farming since the age of 13. He drove school bus for Riverside, Perley, and Borup schools for 35 years until 1991, during which time he also served as custodian at Borup School for 20 years. These jobs were perfect for him, as he loved being around children of all ages. He also loved working in the fields, fishing, and camping. He was known as a 'jack of all trades' and enjoyed helping others with numerous projects. He was most happy spending time with friends, family, and grandchildren.
LeRoy is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dorothy; children, Connie (Lynde David) Gunkel, Bismarck, ND, Penny (David) Herzog, Ulen, MN, Mardy (Margaret) Dosland, Perley, Judy (Terry) Guttormson, Hendrum, MN, Cindy (Wayne) Budke, Fargo, Brendy (Mar
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, and Auntie Esther Dosland who helped raise him from the age of 8 following his mother's death; brother Thormon "Thor", and sister Anne Louise.
LeRoy will be dearly missed but will remain forever in our hea
Visitation for LeRoy will be Sunday, August 17, 2008, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
His funeral will be Monday, August 18, 2008, at 11 AM, in Nora Lutheran Church, rural Gardner.
Burial will take place in Bethania Lutheran Cemetery.
