Eli LeRoy Schwager, known as Fritz, was born August 18, 1926 in Casselton, North Dakota to Eli and Martha (Dittmer) Schwager. As a child, he moved with his family to Rushford, Minnesota, where he grew up and graduated from high school.
During World War II, Fritz, served his country in the US Navy. He served in the Pacific theatre of war on board a destroyer escort and later a hospital ship. Upon assignment in the states, he had the high duty of accompanying the remains of fellow servicemen killed in action to their homes for funeral and burial.
After his discharge, Fritz attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND.
On November 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Mary Jeanne Greene, at the Moravian Church in Fargo. Following their marriage, they lived in Moorhead, MN. For 37 years, Fritz worked at the SuperValu warehouse in Fargo. He retired in 1988. Fritz was a big NDSU Bison sports fan, a long time member of Moorhead Athletic Association, and a championship league bowler.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jeanne of Moorhead; a son, Bruce, also of Moorhead; two daughters, Mary (Jeff) Gustavson, Eagan, MN, and Ann Schwager, Eden Prairie, MN; and two grandsons, Mike and Matt Gustavson.

Funeral service: Saturday (June 23, 2007) at 2 PM, in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead.
