Leveta May Bryson was born March 11, 1913, in Illinois, to J.P. and Nellie May (Bushman) Bryson. The family moved to a farm south of Moorhead, MN, when she was a young girl.
Leveta attended grade school at Clearview School, rural Moorhead, and then graduated from Moorhead State Teachers College Campus School. She received an Education degree from Moorhead Normal School and taught at Rustad, MN. She returned to Moorhead State College and received her bachelor's degree as well as her administrative certificate.
Leveta was married to Robert Scott on October 15, 1938, in Moorhead, and they made their home in Chicago, IL. She did substitute teaching in the Chicago area. They moved to South St. Paul, MN, where she continued to substitute teach.
In 1946, they moved to Borup, MN. She taught in Herman, MN, for one year and then taught in Borup until 1961, when they moved to Moorhead. Leveta taught and served as principal for a number of years in the Moorhead Public School system.
Robert died January 22, 1988. She married Vern Sanford on December 9, 1989, in Moorhead, where they made their home. Vern died October 19, 1995, and she remained in Moorhead. Under the loving care of her family, with assistance from Hospice of the Red
Leveta was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and served in several educational organizations, the Order of Eastern Star and Altrusa. She enjoyed reading, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and quilting.
Leveta is survived by a daughter, Iretta (Dale) Smith, Moorhead; a son, Ray (Laura) Sanford, North Bend, OR; eight grandchildren, Robert, Michael, Donald, Leretta, Daletta, Scott, Stuart and Kelly; thirteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildr
Visitation for Leveta will be Tuesday, February 1, 2011, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.
Her funeral will be Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 11 AM, in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead. Burial will be in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
