Lillie O. Melbostad, 105, Moorhead, MN, formerly of Gardner, ND, died Sunday, July 5, 2009, in the Villa Maria, Fargo, ND.
Lillie Olivia Swenson was born January 30, 1904, to Nels and Carrie (Berg) Swenson at their farm home in rural Gardner. She attended rural Pleasant Valley School District 61 and was baptized and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church.
On October 19, 1928, Lillie married Leland Melbostad in Moorhead and they made their home on a farm east of Perley. They moved for a short time to San Diego, CA, where they both worked in a canning factory. They then returned to Gardner where they farmed for many years.
On January 8, 1988, Leland died and Lillie continued to make her home in Gardner until she moved to the Fairmont, Moorhead, at the age of 102.
Lillie was an avid gardener and she enjoyed playing cards and piano, painting, and the fellowship of good friends. She regularly attended her great-grandsons', the Bjerke Boys, races and was their biggest fan. Lillie loved life and was proud of her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Marlys (Morris) Nedrebo; two granddaughters, Maureen (Wayne) Bjerke and Loree (Ron) Fettig; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by seven brothe
Visitation for Lillie will be on Wednesday from 6 - 8 PM at Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The Funeral will be on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 2 PM in Nora Lutheran Church, Gardner, ND, with Burial in the Nora Lutheran Cemetery.
