Lily E. Filley, 90, Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, in Eventide Lutheran Home, Moorhead.
Lily Evangeline Evenson was born March 13, 1919, on the family farmstead in Richland County, ND. Lily's mother died when she was seven years old and she was raised by her older sisters. Lily attended Campbell schools and graduated from Breckenridge (MN) High School. After graduation she worked for families in the area as a housekeeper.
On February 4, 1939, Lily married Willard Filley in Greenfield, Iowa, and they made their home in Gardner, MT. They lived in various cities and eventually settled in Fergus Falls, MN, in the early 1940's. In 1967, they moved to Moorhead and Lily worked at Eventide Lutheran Home as the manager of their laundry facility. She retired from Eventide in 1989. She enjoyed volunteering as a 4-H leader and accumulated 6,500 hours volunteering at Eventide. Lily enjoyed bowling, playing Bingo, dancing, and watching the Minnesota Twins.
She is survived by four children, Archie (Connie) Filley, Custer, SD, Sharon (Arlynn) Christenson, Stacy, MN, Dennis (Connie) Filley, Spicer, MN, and Lana (Robert) Bandli, West Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Erma Evenson; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Vance and Lawrence (Gladys) Filley; and a close family friend, Carl Beck.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law Kay Filley; three sisters; and six brothers.
