Lily Marie Grafsgaard, 82, Moorhead, MN, died June 7, 2006.
Lily Haugen was born November 7, 1923, in McHenry, ND, and was the daughter of Rev. Thomas and Bendina Haugen. She lived with her parents in several communities in North Dakota and Minnesota. While living near Tolna, ND, she graduated from the rural school in Forde Township and from high school through correspondence courses taken from North Dakota Agricultural Extension Service. She attended Mayville and Minot State Colleges and taught rural school in Forde Township from 1942 to 1946.
Lily married Harris Grafsgaard on June 1, 1946, at Sigdal Lutheran Church near Tolna, ND. They lived in Fargo and Grand Forks, ND, before settling in Moorhead, in 1951. Lily was active in her church as a teacher and Bible study leader. She was an accomplished seamstress and weaver involved with the founding and operation of Gallery 4 in Fargo and Moorhead.
Lily is survived by her husband, Harris, Moorhead; five daughters and one son: Mary (Charles) Sorum, Pelican Rapids, MN; Beverly (Donald) Devoe, Strandburg, SD; Kathryn (Stephen Cowdery), Anoka, MN; Carol (Gary) Feir, Lake Park, MN; Lynne (Thomas) Joyce, West Fargo, ND; and James, Minneapolis, MN. One son, Timothy, died in 1990. There are sixteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters and one brother: Solveig Boe, Edmore, ND; Ingeborg (David) Anderson, Ogema, MN; Agnes Schwede, Sun City West, AZ; and Oscar (Louise) Haugen, Nampa, ID.
A memorial service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead on Saturday, June 10, 2006, at 10 AM. No visitation is planned.
