Linda Gayle Beutler, born on July 18, 1944, in Moorhead, Minnesota, to Victor and Lucille (Brower) Beutler, passed away leaving behind a legacy of strength and resilience. Raised in Dilworth, Minnesota, Linda excelled academically and graduated as co-salutatorian from high school in 1962.
In March of 1964, she married Dennis Johnson, beginning their life together in Glyndon, Minnesota. Linda started her professional journey working in the geology department at North Dakota State University before embracing the joys of motherhood in 1966. For many years, she dedicated her efforts as deputy city clerk for the city of Glyndon until 1984. Following her divorce, she pursued further education at Moorhead State University in criminal justice while balancing work and studies.
Linda displayed remarkable courage when she survived brain surgery in 1980; this experience only strengthened her determination. She later transitioned into retail, working in the men’s cologne department at Daytons in West Acres before beginning her devoted career in the Clay County correctional system. From a jailor to a juvenile detention officer, she served the community with dedication until her retirement in 2011. Throughout her life, she made her homes in Moorhead, Dilworth, Fargo, and ultimately West Fargo.
In her leisure time, Linda enjoyed playing bingo, winning at pull tabs, and participating in meat raffles. As a young woman, she was a passionate piano player and a poet. Her vibrant personality was marked by a colorful vocabulary and a love for billiards, where she participated in pool leagues and tournaments. Additionally, Linda was an active member of the Clay County Historical Society, known for her successful grant writing that supported various projects. She cherished moments with her grandchildren and her beloved dog, Mia.
Linda is survived by her three children, Wendy (Cory) Kramp of Delano, Minnesota, Mike (Kimberlee) Johnson of Nevis, Minnesota, and Trisha Hanson of Arthur, North Dakota, along with five grandchildren: Garrett Kramp, Austin Kramp, Tyler Johnson, Gage Hanson, and Payton Hanson. She is also survived by her two brothers, David (Elaine) Beutler of LeSueur, Minnesota, and Steven (Joany) Beutler of Fort Meyers, Florida, and several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Lucille Buetler, and her sister, Judi Evers.
Linda died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND with her family by her side. Linda Gayle Beutler will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, love for her family, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service in Moorhead, MN. During the service a time of story telling and sharing will be held. Feel free to stand and share. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in the spring at Riverside Cemetery in Glyndon.
