Lloyd Sunde, 86, died Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Eventide Lutheran Home in Moorhead, MN.
Lloyd James Sunde, son of John and Leah Sunde, was born April 1, 1920 in Flowing Township, MN. He grew up near Felton, MN and graduated from Felton High School. In 1941 he graduated from Concordia College with a B.A. in economics and history. He earned a M.S. in Education from North Dakota State University in 1959.
Lloyd enlisted in the Navy as a commissioned officer and took part in the Normandy Invasion of WW II. He served four years as a Lieutenant and after the war was stationed at Pensacola, Florida where he received flight training and earned his Navy wings. He returned to this area and on November 5, 1945, married Mavis Prichard.
He was high school principal in both Glyndon and Dilworth MN schools, but most of his time as a teacher was spent at Moorhead High School. He was very active in the Minnesota Education Association as well as being cross-country and golf coach. Lloyd retired after 18 years of teaching to pursue his first love, farming. He was also Clay County agricultural inspector. Late in life the one request he always made was to go for a drive to the farm. He was very proud that he was able to return to his roots as a farmer.
He served on the board at the Hjemkomst Center, was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and Concordia C-400. He loved traveling, music, hunting and fishing, and was a voracious reader; however nothing gave him as much satisfaction
Lloyd is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Olson, Moorhead; grandchildren Lisa Sunde of Mounds View, MN, Jennifer Stuverud, St. Cloud, MN, and Jeff Olson, Moorhead; one sister Vivian (Corliss) Preston, Sunnyvale, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife, M
A gathering of friends will be Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 29, 2006, at 11 AM, in Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.
Inurnment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
