Lois C. Thornton

Lois C. Olson was born April 5, 1929, in Boone, IA, to Don and Mamie (Sparks) Olson. As a young girl, Lois helped her dad with their family dairy business, where she helped deliver milk before school.
Lois graduated from Ogden High School, in Ogden, IA, in 1946 and later from Drake University, Des Moines, IA. She was the first chair in the saxophone section while at Drake.
Lois was united in marriage to Daniel Thornton on May 25, 1952, in Ogden. They lived in various towns in the Midwest, relocating periodically as a result of Dan's work with Nash Finch.
Dan passed away May 20, 1998, and Lois continued to make her home in Moorhead. Lois was passionate about gardening and took great pride in her large yard, where she enjoyed chatting with neighbors. She loved spending time outdoors and took care of her own yard as long as she was able. Although her family is small, Lois enjoyed living close to them and spending time with them.
Lois died Monday, March 8, 2010, in MeritCare Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, at eighty years of age.
Lois is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Curt) Winmill, Fargo, ND; two grandsons, Alec and Jared Winmill, both Fargo; and her sister, Charlene Siebrandt, Omaha, NE.
In addition to her husband, Lois was preceded in death by her parents, and her son, Danny Jr.
There will be a time for friends to gather on Thursday, March 11, 2010, from 5 - 6:30 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
