Lois E. Lovas

Lois Lovas, 87, Fargo, ND, crossed over into her heavenly life on Saturday, February 1, 2014, in Sanford Health Palliative Care, Fargo.

Lois Elva Harrington was born on December 19, 1926, to Garfield and Edna (Evan) Harrington, in Erie, ND. Lois graduated from high school and attended North Dakota State University, graduating in 1947 with a degree in Home Economics. On June 30, 1951, Lois married Gerhard "Gay" Lovas in Mayville, ND. The family would make their home there for many years.

Lois taught junior high and high school in Cando, ND, Ada, MN, and in Mayville-Portland, for 30+ years, retiring in 1987. She loved teaching, putting on style shows, and making a difference in her students' lives. She was a longtime adviser for Future Homemakers of America and counseled students before school counselors existed.

Lois enjoyed many things in life including teaching and mentoring students, creating Hardanger embroidery, and making greeting cards at Pontoppidan Lutheran Church with her friends. Most of all, she loved being with friends and family, especially if she could host them at Big Floyd Lake in the summer. All who visited Big Floyd Lake have fond memories of the fantastic food Lois cooked and served, the games played and the many conversations on the porch at sunset.

In 1989, Lois and Gay moved to Fargo where Lois spent her remaining years, most recently at Edgewood Vista. Though she suffered memory loss, her gracious spirit never wavered.

Lois is survived by her children, Dan (Cindy) Lovas of Hopkins, MN; Cathy (Keith) Peltier of West Fargo, ND; Steve (Cheri) Lovas of Cheyenne, WY; and Amy (Scott) Anderson of Moorhead, MN; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her sister, Velma Pautz of Mayville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Gerhard; her parents; and her brothers, Lyle, Merton, and Harold Harrington.

Visitation: Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 5-7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, with a prayer service at 7 PM. Funeral Service: Friday, February 7, at 11 AM, in Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo. Burial: Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN, in the spring.
