Louis J. Bernier, 78, Dilworth, MN, died on Friday, January 11, 2008, in MeritCare Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Louis "Louie" Joseph Bernier, son of Daniel and Juliette (Denis) Bernier, was born on June 9, 1929, in Fargo, ND. He was raised in the Wild Rice/Horace, ND, area until his family moved to Comstock, MN, where he graduated from high school.

In June of 1949, Louie married Charlotte Blilie in Fargo. They made their home in Fargo, then Sabin, MN, eventually settling in Moorhead, MN. Louie worked for the Great Northern - Burlington Northern Railroad until his retirement in 1987. As a young man, Louie was active in sports, and along with his brothers Ray and "Swede", played basketball for Comstock High School. He was one of the founding members of the Sabin area men's fast-pitch softball league and for much of his life played league pool. He was a past Local Chairman for the Railroad Union.

On December 1, 1989, Louie married Jolette Rhodes in Moorhead and they made their home in Dilworth. He loved to garden, do yard work, and watch sports, especially the MN Twins and MN Vikings. He was an avid card player, and he loved to spend time with his family and share wonderful, colorful stories. He enjoyed their yearly family croquet tournaments.

Louie is survived by his wife, Jolette, Dilworth; a son, Michael (Renee'), Fargo; four daughters, Lindell (David) Lamb, Dilworth, Siri Bernier, Portland, OR, Kimberly Bernier (Troy Vise), Moorhead, and Jenni (Timothy) Krieg, Fargo; two step-children, Shannon (Todd) Range, Chicago, IL, and Jim Rhodes, Dallas, TX; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Katherine (Arnie) Bolgrean, Moorhead, and Loretta Bernier, Fargo. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Raymond and Lawrence.

The Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at 10 AM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, with a Visitation one hour prior to the service.

A Reception will be held at the Dilworth Community Center immediately following the service.
