Lucille Johanson

Lucille Johanson, 92, of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, September 10, 2015, in her home.

Alvina Lucille Zick was born July 29, 1923, the daughter of George and Alvina (Bleckart) Zick, in Aberdeen, SD. She was raised there and graduated from high school. Shortly before World War II, she was united in marriage to Lyall Ruby in Spearfish, SD. To this union, one son, Leslie, was born. They were later divorced and many years later, Lucille moved to Fargo, ND.

After moving to Fargo, she began working at the Bison Hotel. She then met George Johanson and they were united in marriage on December 5, 1955, in Moorhead. They made their home on the family farm south of Moorhead and to this union, a son Gust George was born. Shortly after his birth, they took a young lady into their home, Eileen King, and she became a part of their family. George passed away July 12, 2007.

Lucille and her family were active members of Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead. She was very active in their WELCA and became the first woman to serve as president of the congregation. She also served on the Board at Eventide on Eighth. Lucille had a passion for volunteering and giving of her time. Over the years she volunteered at the Humane Society, St. Ansgar's Hospital, and the Gift Shop and Help Desk at Innovis (now Essentia) Hospital. Lucille was very involved in caring for and spending time with her grandson, Alex.

Lucille is survived by her sons, Leslie (Nancy) Ruby, Mesa, AZ, and Gust (Brenda) Johanson, Moorhead; daughter, Eileen (Elmer) Werre, Fargo; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Jeanette Englehard, Tucson, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 52 years, George; three brothers and two sisters.

A Visitation for Lucille will be Monday from 5 PM from 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.

Her Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at 1 PM in Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Moorhead.
