Lucille "Lu" Amy Wilson passed away Sunday, May 29, 2005, after a long bout with cancer. She passed away peacefully at her home in Dilworth, MN, surrounded by family.
Lu was born September 16, 1922, in Rothsay, MN. The daughter of Walter and Avis (Nelson) Weyhrauch, Lu grew up in Rothsay and Foxhome, MN. Following her graduation from Breckenridge High School in 1939, Lu worked for Wright Memorial Hospital, Fergus Falls, MN, as an office assistant until 1941. She then began working for Ottertail Power Company, also in Fergus Falls. In 1943, Lu enlisted in the United States Navy. She served as a WAVE in Washington, DC, until her honorable discharge in 1946.
Lu returned home and resumed working for Ottertail Power Company in Fergus Falls until 1948. She then moved to Ellensburg, WA, and began working as a secretary at West Central College of Education. In 1952 Lu returned to Foxhome and met Ralph E. Wilson. Lu and Ralph were married May 24, 1953, in Foxhome Lutheran Church. They made their home in Dilworth, MN, and she began working at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND.
In 1960 Lu began her career with Dilworth Public School. After serving in many roles, Lu retired as secretary to the superintendent in 1979. Ralph retired from the VA Hospital and Lu and Ralph divided their time between their home in Dilworth and their cottage on Lake Lizzie. Ralph passed away in 2001.
Lu was an active member of Dilworth Lutheran Church. She served with DWELCA and Mary Circle. She worked part-time in the church office and volunteered many hours. Lu served as an election judge for the City of Dilworth for many years. She was an active member of American Legion Post 397, Dilworth, and served as commander and membership chairperson during her tenure.
Lu is mourned by her son, Russell; daughter-in-law, Beverly; and her grandchildren, Ross, Margaret, Mackinzie, Reece and Baylee of Breckenridge, MN. She is also mourned by her sisters, Wynne Hendrickson, Wahpeton, ND, Ilene Wheeler, Norwalk, CA, Shirley
Lu is preceded in death by her parents; by her loving husband, Ralph; her sister, Donna Morrissy; brother, Wesley Weyhrauch; and four brothers-in-law, Elmer Hendrickson, Ralph Wheeler, George Morrissy, and Lowell Bergquist.
Visitation: Thursday, from 6 PM to 8 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM,
