Lucille Nelson

April 26, 1923 — January 1, 2014

Lucille Marjorie Nelson was born on April 26, 1923, to Arthur and Alice (Erickson) Nelson on the family farm in Eagle Township, Richland County, ND. She graduated in 1941 from Christine High School as valedictorian of her class. She attended Burroughs calculator school and completed comptometer training. She worked in Minneapolis at Powers Department Store until 1949 when she moved to Los Angeles, CA. She was employed at Carnation Milk Company, Cummins Diesel and later at Atlantic Richfield (which was acquired by British Petroleum) in the accounting department, until retiring in 1985. In 2005, she moved back to this area to be near more extended family and friends and lived in an apartment at Eventide. She had been in the nursing home unit at Eventide since March 2010.

Lucille grew up in the Wolverton Evangelical Free Church (now Eagle Valley) and attended there again when she came back to this area in 2005. When in California, she attended the Covenant church. She was always actively involved in many church activities. She enjoyed teaching children's Sunday school and being involved with the Women's Ministry and any special event going on at church. She faithfully supported her church and various missionaries financially throughout her life. She enjoyed socializing with friends wherever she lived. Her hobbies included oil painting, photography, working on family history, and collecting antiques. She also had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the United States and Europe. She kept up correspondence and phone calls with friends and relatives on a regular basis. Lucille lived a very full and active life. She was an adventurous, curious person who enjoyed all of the little things in life.

Lucille died January 1, 2014, in Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, at the age of 90. She is survived by a sister, Helen Brungard, Santa Paula CA; nephews, Richard (Diane) Nelson, Pelican Rapids, MN, Kirk (Julie) Brungard, Washington DC, Brent (Laurel) Nelson, Fergus Fall, MN; nieces, Cia (Mel) Nelson, Fargo, ND, Pam (Gerry) Hall, Tyler, TX; many great and great-great nieces and nephews as well as many cousins and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Teresa Nelson; brother-in-law, Leo Brungard; niece, Linda Nelson; and special friend, Tom Sawey.

Lucille had truly learned how to "stop and smell the roses." She will be missed…but she leaves a legacy of memories.
