Lydia Louise Hasse was born in Wilkin County, MN, on July 8, 1906. She was the fourth of ten children born to Fred Hasse Sr. and Sophia (Schmidt) Hasse. On October 25, 1928, she was united in marriage to Richard Kath of Tenney, MN. They farmed near Tenney for about fifteen years and then moved to a farm closer to Nashua, MN, where they lived and farmed for numerous years. They retired and moved to Breckenridge, MN, in 1967. They were married for forty-two years when Richard passed away on November 28, 1970.
Lydia worked hard during her life and even began a roofing career at the young age of sixty-seven, which she did for twelve years, until she was about seventy-nine. Lydia loved to play cards and dance, and was quite active up until the past few years. She lived on her own until this past February, when she experienced some health issues and moved to Golden Living Center, Moorhead, MN.
Lydia passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Golden Living Center, just a few short days after celebrating her 104th birthday with her loved ones and friends.
They were blessed with two surviving daughters, LaVonne (Gene) Armstrong of Arvada, CO, and Karen (Albert) Cooper of Moorhead; eight grandchildren, Naomi (Nygel) Young of Alaska, Steven (Linda) Armstrong of Erie, CO, Tanya (Craig) Hawkins of Ft. Collins, CO, Kevin (Teresa) Armstrong of Fort Benning, GA, Roland (Jennifer) Cooper of Moorhead, Alan (Cindy) Cooper of Sabin, MN, Angie (Mike) Edenborg of Moorhead, and Kory (Elissa) Cooper of Moorhead; sixteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Christine Brown of Kearney, NE, and Lucille (Arlan) Scramstad of Fergus Falls, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; and five brothers and two sisters.
The Funeral for Lydia will be Friday, July 16, 2010, at 11 AM, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Visitation will be one hour before the funeral, at the church.
Burial will be Friday, July 16, 2010, at 3:30 PM, in Riverside Cemetery, Nashua, MN.
