Lyle D. Severson

Lyle D. Severson died peacefully January 18, 2018, in Eventide, Fargo, ND, where he resided since August 2017.
Lyle was born on March 23, 1928, in Malung, MN, to Jewel and Hazel Severson. After eight years, the family moved to Newfolden, MN. Lyle finished his high school years in Park River, ND. From there he attended pharmacy school at NDSU, Fargo, and met his future wife on a blind date.
He served as a front line medic in the Korean War and earned a purple heart, two bronze stars and several medals. After his return from service, Lyle and Kathleen were married May 17, 1953. They lived in Breckenridge, MN, for a few years where Lyle worked at a pharmacy. The family moved to Pelican Rapids, MN, around 1957 when Lyle had the opportunity to open his own drugstore.
He grew up on a farm and kept those farm values by maintaining a garden and having several pets such as a horse, a dog, and a rabbit. We even had a lamb for a summer season. Dad introduced us to snowmobiling and took us on many wonderful ski trips. He joined the Shriners which provided the added benefit of having a Harley Davidson motorcycle. After retirement, Lyle and Kathleen were longtime residents on Pelican Lake and winter residents in Sun City, AZ.
About a year after Lyle's wife died, he moved to Riverview Assisted Living in Fargo, where he met new friends and existing acquaintances. He loved his meetings with the men's group and enjoyed hosting ice cream socials.
Lyle will be remembered by family and friends.
Family survivors include children, Corbin (Kendall) Severson of Los Angeles, CA, Lynn (Tim) Meyer of Roseville, MN, Craig Severson (Carmen Rick) of Pelican Rapids, Clark (Jeriann) Severson of Irvine, CA, and Laurie (Michael) Mahaney of Prior Lake, MN; sister, Crystal Utke of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren, Amber, James, Jonathan, Joy, Olivia and Carson; a great- grandson, Ethan; sister-in-law, Sharon Brua; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by wife, Kathleen, and his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at the chapel in Riverview Assisted Living Facility, 5300 - 12th St. So., Fargo, on Thursday, March 8, 2018, at 1:00 PM.
Ice Cream Social to follow.
Interment will be Ringsaker Cemetery at a later date.
