M. June Tollefson
June 4, 1927 — July 1, 2016
Melvina June Kier, known to all as June, and the daughter of John and Emma (Hutchinson) Kier, was born June 4, 1927, in White Earth, MN. She grew up and attended school in Naytahwaush, MN.
On February 9, 1946, June married Clifford Tollefson at Erskine, MN. Throughout their 70 year marriage, they lived in Lengby, MN, and Fischer, MN, before making their home in Dilworth, MN in 1964. In 2006, they moved to Moorhead, MN.
June cared for her family and managed the household until her youngest was in school. After that time, June worked at Americana Nursing Home in Moorhead, and in the coffee shop in Metropolitan Bank, Fargo, until she retired in 1984. She was an excellent cook and is remembered by many as having made the best rice krispie bars. She loved family gatherings and holiday parties, and enjoyed playing card games and bingo. In retirement they enjoyed camping and traveling and spent many summers at campgrounds in the MN lake country.
June died Friday, July 1, 2016, in Ecumen Evergreens, Moorhead, surrounded by her family, and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, at the age of 89. She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Luke Anthony Tollefson; a sister, Mary Lou Koerner; and brothers, Wilfred and Herbert "Bud" Kier.
June is survived by her husband, Clifford of Moorhead; 10 children, Donald "Butch" (Stacy) Kier, Shelly, MN, James (Anita) Tollefson, Ogilvie, MN, Sharon Hoffman, Aberdeen, SD, Gloria (Wally) Mueller, Audubon, MN, Tom (Debbie) Tollefson, Glyndon, MN, Ed (Barb) Tollefson, Plymouth, MN, Richard (Gina) Tollefson, Baton Rouge, LA, Don (Cindy) Tollefson, Coon Rapids, MN, Curt (Tammy) Tollefson, Anthem, AZ, and Patty (John) Mastel, Fargo, ND; sister, Delores Peterson, Bagley, MN; brother, John (Sharon) Kier, Waubun, MN; 26 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
The funeral service for June Tollefson will be Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 2:30 PM in Dilworth (MN) Lutheran Church.
She will be buried in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
