Mabel Charlotte Rice was born January 29, 1909, in Victoria, IL, to Frank and Lottie Mae (Coleman) Rice.
The family moved to the Averill, MN, when she was a toddler. Mabel was very proud of the fact that she had perfect attendance and was one of five students in her graduating class from Glyndon (MN) High School.
Mabel was married to Paul E. Hurner on June 25, 1930, in Moorhead, MN. They lived and farmed in the Glyndon area for many years. Paul preceded Mabel in death on March 4, 1986. Mabel died Thursday, May 14, 2008, at ninety-nine years of age, at Golden Living Center, Moorhead, where she had resided since October of 2007.
In her early years, Mabel played coronet in their family band with her mother, sister and brother. They played at many dances and events in the surrounding area. Mabel was an avid gardener, loved to bowl and play cards with family and friends.
Mabel is survived by her sister, Faye Allen, of Moorhead; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Her Funeral will be Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 10:30 AM, in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead.
Visitation will be at the church, one hour before the funeral.
Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
